Good Food Fund News – May 2017

As you may well know one of our initiatives is the Good Food Fund, a fund supported solely by your donations. We use this money to buy fresh organic vegetables for people who are living in food poverty in the local area. We buy these items at cost price and pass them on without making a profit on them, so your money goes a long way to buy good food for people in need.

Each week we send boxes with fresh organic vegetables to The Space in Govanhill – packed by one of their volunteers – where they are distributed to local families. Thanks to your donations we were able to send 36 food boxes to The Space in April. We were also able to give 6 sacks of root veg to the South East Food Bank.

We were excited to hear that The Space is about to start hosting cooking classes for the families that are referred to them and we will be supporting this project – with your donations – by providing the ingredients.

We’ve recently been granted funds for a new project, Good Food For All, which will allow us to promote and develop the Good Food Fund in partnership with another of our initiatives, Grow The Growers. This means that we can distribute local produce to food banks and partner organisations, grown by folks that we’re training in small scale organic horticulture.

To make a donation, you can either put some coins into the green tin at the till in our shop or set up a direct debit on our website: www.glasgowlocavore.org/pay – let us know if you’d like to make a one off, weekly or monthly payments. You can send us a cheque made payable to “Good Food Fund” or donate via bank transfer (Good Food Fund; sort code 80-22-60; account number 12354669). If you’re a veg box customer, you can also donate through the Open Food Network.

If you’d like more information, or want to partner with us, email us at goodfood@glasgowlocavore.org, ask in the shop, or call us on 0141 423 8685.
