Hello Folks,

The evening sessions at the Urban Croft, which has been housing this year’s Grow the Growers team, have come to an end and the beds have been covered over for winter. If anyone has a spare plot of land, the growers are looking for somewhere to move on to next year! The next arrival to the Croft will be lots of Christmas trees towards the end of November. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media pages as Christmas orders will be opening very soon…

Our Neilston produce is slowing down but we’ll still have kale and salad leaves (winter lettuce, mizuna and purple frill) in smaller quantities throughout the winter. They’ll make it into the large or extra large boxes but if our small and standard customers are missing the Scottish soil goodness– you’ll still be able to get it in the shop or amongst our deli salads.

We’re coming to the end of the wild mushroom season and you’ll have seen them dotted around tree stumps and grasslands. You might have seen some interesting varieties in the shop such as chanterelles, winter chanterelles and hedgehog. In our Veg Boxes this week, we have delicious chestnut mushrooms from Orchard Organics over in Northern Island. The McArdle family who started out growing for themselves were conventional mushroom farming since the 70s and converted to organic in 2000. This pasta recipe looks amazing. To make it plastic free, pair with our loose Castagna Pasta. And for vegans, swap the spicy sausage for Linda McCartney’s Veggie sausages, defrosted and sliced and give it a few more dashes of olive oil to replace the pecorino.
