Happy New Year!
Congratulations to Robert who won the hamper for our latest Munch of the Month competition! For those of you who don’t know, Munch of the Month is a competition we run for our veg box subscribers with a chance to win a hamper of goods from our shop. In order to enter, simply post a photo to Facebook or Instagram of a dish you’ve created with ingredients from your veg box delivery alongside a brief description of what you’ve made and the tags #locavorevegbox and #locavoremm. You can enter as many times as you like and the closing time for this round of entries is 12pm on Monday, January 28th.
Find Cavolo Nero in your veg boxes this week – the hardy plant which keeps on giving even in our cool weather. Our own production out at Neilston has slowed down, so we’re thankful for the family run farm, Strawberry Fields down in Lincolnshire for their beautiful big whole heads. Find out more about what to do with kale on our Veggiepedia page. Does your kale ever go yellow before you finish it? Try freezing it within the first couple of days to retain the nutrients and stop it spoiling. You can then cook with it straight from the freezer – breaking off bits as you need them.
While we have little produce to harvest, our growers are busying themselves with building new benches for hardening off seedlings before planting them outdoors. In true Locavore fashion, the benches are being built from pallets that we get our big deliveries on, keeping waste to a minimum.
