Hello Folks,
Last week, we on the veg box team enjoyed a sunny day away from the office on a visit to the Locavore Left Field farm, where lots of the veg from this week’s boxes was grown. It was a real treat to watch the growers at work and to see the beginnings of the veg the farm will be producing over the next year. The farm is perched on the side of a hill that looks out over towards the city, so it’s unsheltered from the extremes of the weather. The day before our visit, the wind had blown a hole in the farm’s polytunnel, where tomatoes, cucumbers, and other warmer-weather veg is grown. Futher down the hill, kale grows in plentytude beneath fine nets that protect it from peckish pigeons.
You’ll most likely have seen Reuben’s email from last week about our recent growing pains. We would like to say thank you to all of you for your continued support during our recent challenges. And I’d like to remind you that this week, the Open Food Network won’t be open for orders, to give us some extra time for adjusting and organising. Here’s to being better than ever!
In this week’s boxes: beetroot, kale, and sweet, orange-fleshed bon bon squash! We’ll be posting a squash recipe this Friday on our website to help you make the most of these delightful little fellas. As always, please keep us up to date on what you’re cooking!
