Hello Folks,
The howling winds! The dark and stormy nights! The chorus of sweetly wailing ghosts that glide along the pavement! The gentle glow of carved pumpkins on doorsteps! The monsters in the dark! What a night to be warm, and safe, and eating lovely veg. We have terrifyingly tasty stuff for you this week. You can carve your festival squashes, scooping out the flesh to roast and soup-ify. The rainbow carrots will look amazing shaved in a salad, maybe with the blood-red beetroot.
Just as if you’d knocked on the door of a very generous goblin, your fruit bags are loaded with treats. They’re bumper bags to make up for a couple of weeks of problems with them (likely caused by a ghost- can spreadsheets be haunted?) We hope you enjoy the pears in particular- I love some pears mixed into an apple pie or crumble, or eaten with a good cheddar. Watch out for the green satsumas- they’re delicious but quite the trip if you aren’t expecting them.
I hope you all have a brilliant week, full of fun and good food. But stay safe out there, cause after all, anything can happen on Halloween.
Introducing Your Veg Box Team
This week we’re honoured to introduce you to Sally!
“Hello
everyone, my name is Sally & I am the new Veg Box & Wholesale
Manager here at Locavore. So far it has been a pleasure getting to
know some of you on social media (that’s often me on Instagram
stories), & I hope to get to know more and more of you.
My
role is all about bringing everything together & developing the
business. I am really keen to hear your feedback, suggestions, likes
& dislikes. I also love seeing what you all do with your Locavore
goodies so please keep the photos & recipes coming in.
I
am passionate about great food & nature so Locavore suits me down
to the ground. I have been a chef for the last 12 years and I’m
enjoying the change of pace & but I do miss tasting/eating all
day. Apparently I have to nominate a favourite vegetable which is
very difficult as I love them all (except swede). I am going to go
for cauliflower. I love its versatility & that you basically get
two veg in one as the leaves are like cabbage.
My
favourite foods are anything spicy & butter. It’s great to meet
you all!”
New Order Change Deadlines
We’re changing our deadlines starting next week, to make them simpler and more fair for everyone involved. Previously, we had deadlines that differed according to when you recived your order, which led to a lot of confusion. We’re moving now to a blanket deadline of (drumroll please):
9 O’CLOCK ON MONDAY MORNINGS
So if you need to pause your deliveries, add something to your opt-out list, or add eggs to your subscription, make sure to email those in by the end of the weekend before your order. As long as your request is in by then, and it’s something we offer as a part of the service, it will be fulfilled. You can also call us up the week before your order. Of course, if an unpredictable situation comes up after the deadline that means you need to change or cancel an order, let us know as soon as possible, and we’ll try to help if we can.
Monthly Specials
This week, we’ve got meat boxes which have a range of cuts to feed a family. Let us know if you’d like to try one next month.
Next week, it’s our cheese boxes, with cheeses from across the UK. And if you don’t eat dairy, why not try a hand-picked vegan box? They’re a great way to try new products and see if they’re a good fit for you. This month’s are set to be a real treat!
Customer Survey- Win a monthly special box!
On Friday, we released this year’s customer satisfaction survey. We value your feedback as we’re planning what to grow for the year ahead. Most importantly, we’ll grow ourselves- we’re always looking to know what you’re enjoying, and what could use some work. This is your chance to let us know how we’re doing.
Plus, this year we’re raffling off a sweet treat box and some pasta, pulse and grain boxes. Fill out the survey for your name to be put in the hat. Winners will be announced on Friday, 1st November, so there’s not long left to enter!
The Good Food Fund
We would like to pass on a thank you from Crookston Community Group who is the newest partner of the Good Food Fund. They provide over 500 meals per week for people in their local area. They run a food share drop-in centre on a Wednesday where members of the local community can collect food parcels. Their Food share on wheels takes parcels every day of the week to people who are unable to reach the centre. During the school holidays Crookston Community Group run a lunch club to substitute the free meals that children receive in schools. Thank you for your donations that enable us to send fresh produce to projects like this one.
Check out storage guidance here for helpful tips and tricks on how to prolong the life of your fresh produce. If you’re wondering where your veg comes from, have a look at these maps. You can also join your fellow subscribers over in the Facebook group and check out our Veggiepedia!
