Hello Folks,
What a busy week we’ve had! We’ve got lots of improvements going on behind the scenes here at Veg Box HQ, and are excited for our veg boxes and our service to be better than ever soon. Meanwhile, we’ve been putting together lovely boxes for you for this week to brighten the grey January days. In the veg boxes, we’ve got much-missed kale (it’s been a while!), mushrooms, squash, and parsnips. Lately, I’ve been making a lot of macaroni cheese with sauteed kale stirred through. My mushrooms will top this coconut yogurt flatbread– I’ve been really enjoying Meera Sodha’s recipes lately. I’m a little tired of roasted parsnips, so mine will go with the carrots, onions, and swede into a stew with lots of herbs and some fluffy, light dumplings on top.
Marmalade!
One of the many joys of eating seasonally is those special things that come round for a short time each year. They never stop feeling like a treat. And I’m particularly excited that it’s finally seville orange season! It’s time to make marmalade!
We’re offering organic bitter seville oranges from a farm called Ave Maria. One of our suppliers visited them last year, and made a short video of the farm. It looks like the most beautiful place. Nearly as beautiful as the marmalade we’ll make with their oranges.
If you’d like to order the oranges, email us with the kilo amount by 9am on Monday 27th January. The oranges are priced at £2.80 per kilogram. The oranges will then go out with orders that week. If you’re a fortnightly or a monthly customer and you’re not due for an order that week but still want bitter oranges, let us know and we can work something out.
I’ll be sharing my grandma’s recipe for marmalade this week, but if you have a recipe you love I want to hear it too- join in on our marmalade thread in the Facebook group.

How much of its own food could Scotland produce and what would this
mean for our diet? How does working towards food sovereignty sit with
notions of national independence? What is our vision for progressive
trade relations?
