Could you be a Pothole Plotholder?

We’re delighted to launch a new project which is set to create acres of new food growing space across Glasgow by working with the Council’s Roads department throughout 2025.

Funded by Glasgow 850, we’re looking for Potholders to identify and take on at least 850 new growing spaces right across the city to celebrate Glasgow 850th birthday in 2025.

Glasgow City Council is world beating when it comes to potholes with more craters than any other local authority in Scotland, it also leads Scotland in the length of its allotment waiting list. Through this project we’ll harness the creativity of the people of Glasgow to fill our potholes with fruit, vegetables and hope.

Councillor Shameless Conaway explains ‘This is the single biggest action we have taken to ensure that we meet our statutory obligational Food Growing Strategy, deliver the strategy that we set out to deliver. By delivering this ambitious project with our third sector partner, Loch-a-vore, we will ensure that Glasgow is truly a sustainable place to live, work and invest. More so it builds upon our Full of Beans Special Award, showing that we aren’t just full of hot air, or full of..anyway.”

We hope mini allotments up and down all our streets will encourage people to reclaim their neighbourhoods and promote active travel and pedestrian forward neighbourhoods. No longer will drivers be frustrated by potholes as they slow down and enjoy the sweet smell of traffic calming camomile.

The project is now live and you can get involved by signing up via the form below, letting us know which pothole you would like to adopt and be the potholder of.

The first 100 potholders will get an allotment starter kit (included branded hi-vis vest) and a discount on Locavore veg box deliveries.

With around 55 million potholes and just 1,600 allotments in Glasgow this is probably your best chance at getting space to grow anytime soon!
