Veg Box Newsletter 14/04/17

Hi Folks,

Happy Friday and Easter weekend!

It’s been a productive week here with our Louis, Hannah, Natalie and volunteers busy at Left Field and Rouken Glen with planting courgettes, pulling out the scrags of last years overwintered crops and building even more shelves in the tunnel for seed propagation. We’ve also started investigating installing an off grid system to provide some power which we hope will let us automate ventilation and irrigation in the tunnels.

At The Croft this years group of New Growers have been weeding their plots and crop planning, and tomorrow will be moving 12 tonnes of compost to top up beds. Key crops for them this year look to be rainbow carrots, sugar snap peas and the surprising tree spinach. We also finished planting strawberries along with gooseberries and raspberries at Pollokshields West train station.

At the shop they have moved into the world of ethical footwear (well one kind of shoe) and have lots of fun Easter activities on. Meanwhile here at the warehouse we have got through a fridge breakdown, health and safety visit and VAT return. The office isn’t the most interesting place…

Our Munch of the Month competition for April is now open so get your entries in if you’d like to be in for a chance of winning a hamper of ethical goods from our shop! Simply share a photo of a dish you’ve created with your veg box ingredients to social media with the tags #locavorevegbox and #locavoremm by May 2nd.
