Hello Folks,
Production at the Urban Croft, the site that hosts our Grow the Growers scheme, is now winding down after a fruitful summer and autumn while focus turns towards winter crops (such as garlic!). That said, the growers are still harvesting some lovely tomatoes and herbs including fresh oregano, dill and thyme. Our resident florist, Kim, who also has a plot at the Croft continues to pick and arrange beautiful bouquets throughout the week for sale in the shop, and has some exciting plans for expansion next year!
If you need any extras this week in the shop, remember your refill jars and bags! We’ve just added a 5p charge for paper bags as part of our journey to zero waste and we need you all to help. If you haven’t got enough of your own bags, make a one off purchase of our organic cotton refill bags in different sizes. Or you can choose from a cute range of naturally hand-dyed bags from Edinburgh makers Zero Waste Shopper. You’ll find refillable glass jars and milk bottles in the shop too. As for the plastic packaging in our veg boxes, we’re trialling a couple of different plastic alternatives to cover our delicate produce. Let’s end this throw away culture!
The summer has officially ended and we’re all looking for the perfect pumpkin to carve. You’ll see lots of different shapes to choose from over the month including the Rolet in this week’s Veg Box’s. Roasted and souped are the heartiest ways to serve with the chill in the air this month.
