Hello Folks,
In case you didn’t already know, our Zero Waste team is running a documentary screening series at the shop over the next few months. The films that will be showing include Wasted! (October 24th), In Our Hands – Seeding Change (November 7th), Trashed (December 5th), Inhabit: A Permaculture Perspective (January 16th), and Utopia Revisited (February 20th ). The screenings are free but ticketed, so make sure to keep an eye out on our Events page on Facebook for when the tickets are released. The first screening has already sold out!
Carrots, potatoes and onions – such readily used vegetables we sometimes don’t give them credit for making so many meals sweet, warm and flavoursome. Since Locavore began we’ve been getting ours from Chapel Farm Organics over in North Berwick. A family owned and ran farm for over 50 years, we’re proud to have supported them for many of these. If you’ve had enough of soup and stew recipes, then roast them all! Roughly chop everything to a similar size, boil the carrots and potatoes with a bit of salt until cooked but not breaking, drain and return to pot where you toss with olive oil and more salt (preventing oil waste), then chuck them on a baking tray and in the oven at a high temperature. Add any herbs or garlic for extra tastiness.
Kale is one of our most prolific crops over at our market garden, Left Field, on the outskirts of Neilston. We grow a few varieties, including the Westland Winter and Cavolo Nero that feature in this week’s veg boxes.
