Locavore is in trouble and we really need your help so that we can continue to take forward our work to build a food system that’s better for people and planet.
We’ve had a difficult year following fast expansion which saw us open new shops in Garnethill, Kirkintilloch and Edinburgh as well as buy new land for organic growing, and open a new hub for our veg box and wholesale orders. We did lots of this with investment from Social Investment Scotland but the cost of living crisis combined with new shops not being as busy as we had hoped means we are now in a very vulnerable position.
Since spring we’ve worked to secure further lending from Social Investment Scotland but after many months of delay they turned down our application and will not reconsider it.
This now leaves us with very few options but to make difficult cuts and savings in order to secure our future. We’ve now closed our Garnethill branch and are making lots of other changes to reduce costs and make what we do profitable across the whole of Locavore. It’s going to be hard.
Critically we also still need to bring in funds over next few months to give us the time we need to make the changes that will bring us to a place where we are financially sustainable again.
Please take some time to read our Crowdfunder, make a pledge if you can, and then share it.
You can also keep supporting us each day by using our shops, getting a veg box and by sharing our crowdfunder. We’ve worked so hard over the last 11 years to get where we are, please help us secure our future!
